Hi Trish Davies, here and I have previously written about the importance of personal branding. Today I want to look at creating a personal brand identity. This is important because it will reflect who you are and what you stand for.
This means that when people land on your authority website, they instantly know what to expect. This should also be replicated on all your social platforms to create uniformity.
When people think of branding may well think it only applies to large corporations around the world. That couldn’t be any further from the truth as it is just as important for individuals just like yourself. It will be a key component to your success as it is for the big players around the world.
When it comes to branding people often get hung up on the aesthetics of their online and offline presence. As a business owner you must have your own website and online presence.
That must look the part and come across as professional to instil confidence in the visitor. So yes logos, colour schemes, fonts and images are important to make an impression.
That can be said for the material you use offline such as business cards and company documentation. The foundation though for your personal brand is you because only you can define, express, and communicate who you are.
Creating A Personal Brand Identity
As you are unique this is your biggest asset because it sets you apart from anyone else. Although you will have competition in your industry a personal brand somewhat eliminates it. What I mean by this is who you are and what you do is utterly unique so others can’t compete with you.
Your brand reflects you for your skills and talents along with, and more importantly, what you stand for. You will create your own unique style and you will express that style through your brand.
What this represents is your true authenticity and authority in your area of expertise. When you showcase this to the world it makes you powerful and memorable to people. Hence setting you apart from your competition.
I want to focus today on three things that are intrinsically personal to you and will define your brand. These three components are more important than the bells and whistles that you may have on your website. More important than your logo and your colour scheme.
They are the foundation to your brand, and they are as follows.
- Your Who And Do What Statement
- Your Why You Do It Statement
- Your Tagline
When you focus on these three components you will feel totally expressed in the words that you create. Those words will represent who you are, what you do and why you do it so let’s look at each component.
Your Who And Do What Statement
When people come across your who and do what statement for the first time, they will know how you can help them. This is massive consideration for anyone who is looking for a solution to a problem they are experiencing.
You must realise that when people are looking for solutions, they want to know who they are dealing with. Business has become a lot more personal and consumers are looking for people who they get to know, like and then trust.
This often gets overlooked by big businesses who are solely focused on the bottom line for their business. Therefore, this is a big plus for independent business owners to make their statement.
You must show people that you are a real person who has helped other people like them. By doing this you are removing a barrier that people already have in place. They may be sceptical, had bad experiences elsewhere and are looking for someone genuine. This is you so tell them who you are and what you can do for them.
Your Why You Do It Statement
Now your potential customers know who you are what you do they want to connect with you personally. Your why you do it statement reflects your purpose in life, and this will connect emotionally with them. If you can connect emotionally then it is the first step to creating a relationship with that person.
That person wants to know what your purpose is, why you do what you do and what you stand for. Tell them your reason for getting up every morning and why you want to serve them.
This is you speaking to them from the heart and when you are sincere with them, they will resonate with you. This statement must be deeply meaningful to hit that person at a deep level. When you achieve this, you are then emotionally attached to that person.
Your Tagline
Your tagline is one simple sentence which is based on your why you do it statement. It is something that you will never get tired of hearing as it defines what you stand for, 100%. It will resonate with you and the people that you want to serve. They will hear it or read it and know that you are the person to help them with their problems.
Your tagline is a representation and vision of what you want to achieve in this life. When you create it in this way it will have a positive and meaningful impact on people’s lives.
Start Creating Your Brand Identity
These are the core elements for creating a personal brand identity, so it is time to get your pen and paper. This is your exercise for the day, and it will take you some time to complete.
Keep things simple and straight forward. Speak from the heart to make that emotional connection with people. Remember these statements are a representation of who you are, what you do, how you can help and why you do it.
