Building an authority website can take some time so to make it easier follow these 5 steps on how to build authority website to establish your online presence.
Hi Trish Davies, here, founder of Build Your AU. To carry on with the theme of establishing authority online I want to share the 5 steps on how to build authority website. Over the last few posts I have looked at how to create content for your website and the choosing of a domain name.
Today I want to look at the specific steps you must take to establish your authority through your own website. As with anything you do in life it does take some time to achieve the goals you set. That is no different when trying to establish authority though your website.
To shorten that timeframe, I am going to share with you the 5 steps on how to build authority website. When you implement these steps, it can influence the time your website is categorised as an authority.
There is a familiar process to building any kind of website, but these steps specifically establish authority.
The 5 Steps On How To Build Authority Website
Below are the five steps you must take to build an authority website which I will then break down in more detail.
- Website Creation & Branding
- Keyword Research
- Creating Content
- Social Networking
- Backlinking
Website Creation & Branding
When it comes to website creation you must have a framework in place to then construct your authority website. Think of it as building a house. You must have firm foundations in place before you can build the structure and then add the furniture.
Therefore, you need website building software to start building from the ground up. My recommendation is using WordPress as it is a user friendly and intuitive script. Without getting into technicalities at this stage basically you install this script on your domain name through your hosting company.
It is important that your website represents who you are, what you do and how you can help people. This must be clear right from the word go when someone lands on your home page.
Aesthetics are important so that you give the right impression to your website visitors. They must be sure that they are in the right place to fulfil their needs. Therefore, design is important and there are many professional looking themes that you can install using WordPress. Use colours and fonts that represent the types of products and services you provide and above. Also, navigation is key so people can find the information they need without having to trawl through your website.
When it comes to branding then logo design needs to be professional and matches your choice of colours. What is more important about branding is the message you deliver and the language you use to deliver it.

Keyword Research
When it comes to keyword research there are two factors that you must take into consideration. Your authority website will consist of static pages which are designed to give essential information about you and your business.
People want to know who you are and what your business stands for. They want to know what’s in it for them so you must tell them. Your business will fit into a specific niche so the information you put on these pages must be congruent.
Therefore, you must do keyword research on you niche and incorporate those relevant keywords into your content. The content you publish will go along way to establishing your website as an authority in the eyes of the main search engines.
The second factor about keyword research is through regularly publishing content through articles. These articles are commonly referred to as blog posts which are a fluid element to your authority website.
The topics for these blog posts must represent what people are looking for online. These are called keywords so you must write about what people want to know more information on.
Gather together a list of around 100 keywords which are broken down into three main categories of competition. Using tools and resources such as the Goole Keyword Planner, Keywords Everywhere, and Answer The Public. These resources will give you an indication of the demand and competition of a keyword.
Start off by writing content around low competition keywords to build up a base of content on your website. Every piece of I content I create is like adding another brick in the wall for my business.
All of this content and the keywords you use will give your site relevance and density when it comes to content. Then start adding content for medium and higher competition keywords as again this will add to the keyword density of your website.
The more content you regularly add that is relevant will attract the attention of the main search engines. They will recognise that you are an authority and will reward you within their search engines.
Content Creation
I have mentioned in the previous section about content that you must add to your authority website. Content marketing is more powerful now than it ever has been in the past.
Your audience craves content so you must feed and meet that desire. Buying decisions are made through the value that you provide in your content. You must be seen as an authority and an influencer who people know, like and trust.
I have previously written an article that explains how to write great engaging content for your audience. Rather than repeat myself click here to understand the strategy behind content marketing. The come back here and I will share with you the final two steps on how to build authority website.
Social Networking
Social networks are powerful platforms to leverage that help you establish your authority online. Look at the platforms that are aligned to your business and then create profiles on those platforms.
If you are a business to business provider then platforms such as LinkedIn and Twitter can be very effective. Also look at the other platforms and asses which one would be a good fit.
When completing your profiles make sure you put down all information about you and your business. Add you website link so people can check you out when they land on your profile.
Utilize these platforms by adding content directly or use software applications to automatically add your blog posts. These platforms are very powerful to make people aware of who you are and what you can do for them.
They are also great to generate engagement with people. Strike up conversations and create relationships that can become fruitful in the future.
Backlinking
Backlinking is a process where your website link appears on another web resource. Having backlinks to your website adds to your authority status but they are not all equal.
What you must concentrate on is the quality of the backlink and not the quantity you have. Therefore, make sure you have backlinks from other sources that are relevant to your business, industry, and niche.
One way of obtaining backlinks is to guest post on other people’s websites. You will add valuable content and in return you will be allowed to publish your website link. You must not appear as spammy, always lead with value.
Also, you can comment on other peoples websites and use relevant keywords in your comments. Again, be of value and help people as this will help you establish yourself as an authority and increase your brand awareness.
Don’t be tempted to buy backlinks in bulk as they hold no credence, only focus on gaining high ranking backlinks.
