How To Reach Potential Customers Using The Circle Of Focus
In business you must know how to reach potential customers which means focusing on one marketing channel at a time and create a circle of focus.
Hi Trish Davies, here from Build Your AU and today I want to focus on marketing and how to reach potential customers. Marketing I obviously essential for any business to grow therefore you must create an effective marketing strategy.
The trouble is that marketing your business is like being a kid in a sweetshop as there is so much choice. There are hundreds of marketing channels and platforms along with thousands of strategies.
If you are a relatively new business owner or even experienced you run the risk of falling into a common trap. That trap is to try and leverage all the marketing channels and platforms at the same time.
Like the child in the sweetshop choosing dozens of different sweets and creating a pick & mix bag. The difference is that that child will have a great time sampling all of their treasure and will find ultimate fulfilment.
As for business owners and marketers who adopt this approach there is only one outcome. It certainly isn’t great joy and fulfilment as it leads to a lot of head scratching, frustration, and expense.
The reason this happens is that you are trying to do too much and stretching yourself too thin. This is a common mistake that business owners make as they think they must be advertising on all platforms.
The truth is that your ideal customers are not on all the different platforms so you must be strategic. Here’s how!
How To Reach Potential Customers Using The Circle Of Focus
Take the analogy of the child walking into a sweetshop as you walking into a marketing exhibition. As you walk in your will see all of the main marketing platforms with their presentation stands.
You then start to browse and speak to all the exhibitors and gather information from them. Information on what they can do to help you advertise and market your business online.
So, in effective you are creating your own pick and mix bag of marketing channels that you want to leverage. The natural reaction is to start to market on all the channels but that is the biggest mistake you can make.
To help illustrate this I am going to focus on 6 main marketing platforms.
- YouTube
- Blogging
The above image represents a pie chart with equal sections containing the 6 marketing platforms. That equals 16.66% for each section. Therefore, if you were to tackle all the platforms at the same time you are not using each one to their maximum potential.
You only have so much time in the day to allocate to marketing your business. For example, let’s say you have 90 minutes a day to market your business you could only spend 15 mins on each platform. In reality that is not enough and won’t be very effective.
You will literally be that headless chicken running all over the place with no direction. Nothing you need to get done will get done and you will never gin any momentum. So, let’s streamline things down a bit.
Take Away 50% Of The Marketing Platforms
What I am now going to do is take away 50% of the marketing platforms but not discard them totally. Al will become clear in just few moments. So, as you can see the following image focus on just 3 marketing platforms.
- YouTube
Now your marketing strategy is not looking as busy as it was before but in many respects still not ideal. Working on the principle of having 90 mins to do your marketing you now have 30 mins for each platform.
That is double what you had before which means potentially you could get twice the amount done. Although that sounds better you are still stretching yourself in three directions.
What I am suggesting is that you streamline things even further to create you circle of focus.
How To Create You Circle Of Focus
With this strategy you take away two further marketing channels but not discarding them forever. This leaves you to focus on just one marketing channel at a time as illustrated in the image below.
As you can see I have placed Facebook in the circle of focus, but this is just for an example. Now you have 1 marketing channel and platform to focus on. That is 100% of your marketing time of 90 minutes and you can get a lot done within that time.
More importantly what you do within that time will be more effective because you are focused. You have one train of thought with no distractions. Therefore, adopting this mindset enables you to master that marketing channel and platform.
You will create a marketing strategy around that single platform that runs like a well-oiled machine. You will then get much more return in investment on you time and money spent when you master one platform at a time.
As you can see in the picture around the circle of focus there are other marketing channels. I said earlier that I hadn’t discarded them totally and here is why. Once you have mastered your first marketing channel and have it working you can then bring another channel into the circle of focus.
Then it is a rinse and repeat process. You focus on 1 marketing channel, your circle of focus, master it and then move onto the another.
In time you will have multiple channels working effectively but this is the only way to achieve that. If you try and market on all channels from the start you won’t see much success.
The marketing channels I have referenced are just for example purposes. Earlier I mentioned that you must know where your ideal customers hang out so you must do your research. Then come up with a list of marketing channels that you want to target.
Then break them down using the process that I have shared with you. Create your circle of focus with the main marketing platform you want to use. Master it then bring another marketing channel into the circle of focus and repeat the process.
This is how to reach potential customers in an effective way and see far higher returns on your investments. Both time and financial investments. For more business tips and insights please visit my YouTube channel here, subscribe and hit the notification bell.
