Delivering Training Online – What You Need To Know
As an online coach you will be delivering training online but do you know what you are doing? Here is a checklist to make sure your coaching hits the mark.
Hi Trish Davies here and the focus for today is delivering training online. Build Your AU will help you create your own online training programs though the unique process I have created.
The program will help you establish your authenticity and authority as well as attracting your audience. Initially the training material you deliver will be through automation.
A process that you set up and then it works for you 24/7 and 365 days of the year. The other side to your coaching business is where you deliver live training. Now this can be in group sessions as I do with my Build Your AU monthly mastermind.
Alternatively, you could conduct one on one sessions especially in your high ticket coaching programs. Automation, group sessions and private sessions is generally how you coaching business will evolve over time.
What I am about to share with you regarding delivering training online will apply to all scenarios.
Delivering Online Training Insights
Before I do that I want to share some insights into online training and coaching. It can be exciting and hugely rewarding both financially and the satisfaction you will feel. It can also be scary and you will feel some trepidation as you emerge into this journey.
Fear of technology, fear of presenting and the fear of what people will think of you. They are common feelings; you are certainly not alone. I still get those feelings in the pit of my stomach, even after all the years I have been training online.
Because of my experience I can control my emotions and feelings. Continued practice certainly makes it easier but it is still good to feel those emotions. It keeps you on your toes and proves that what you do still means an awful lot to you.
You will make some mistakes, you are human, but don’t get too down on yourself. Each mistake you make you will learn from and it will make you a better coach and trainer.
One thing I will mention though is that there is no better time to start delivering online training. Covid-19 has shifted the landscape when it comes to people looking for coaching and training.
eLearning which is the niche we work I is booming. Hundreds of billions of dollars will be spent over the next few years. You only need a minute slice of that huge cake to ensure financial freedom for yourself.
Build Your AU will help you create an online coaching business and I will share some more information about the program shortly. For today I am going to focus more on the practical side of delivering training online.
A Checklist For Delivering Training Online
Connectivity Is Key
You must have the basics in place before you open yourself up to the online coaching world. Therefore, you must have good internet speed, the higher the better to avoid your sessions dropping out or freezing.
Also, your own personal hardware must be up to the job. You may have an old laptop which you think will do the job. Unfortunately, it may not have the processing capability to effectively connect to the platforms that you will be using. Make sure your hardware it is up for the job.
Become Tech Savvy
Following on with the technology theme you must become tech savvy. You must know the features and functionality of the technology that you will be using. You don’t want to go into your first online session not knowing what buttons to press and when to press them.
Rehearse your sessions when you are starting out. Get a close audience made up of family and friends to test drive what you will be using. Keep practicing so that when your first session starts and you see the list of attendees you have you can hit the ground running.
Have Tech Backups
I said in the first part of this checklist to make sure you have the infrastructure in place. Connectivity and hardware that will form your mission control and communication hub.
With that said it is always handy to have backups in place. Say for example you have a power cut or the internet goes down. If you have things set up on a backup device such as your phone you can still connect and deliver your sessions.
Create A Comfortable Environment
You must have a comfortable environment in which to deliver your training from. I am grateful that I have a lot of space in my house and have a large and comfortable home office.
Even if space is a problem you can still make your workspace nice and comfortable to work in. Your chair and desk are probably the most important things to get right. Make sure your desk is at the right hight and your chair gives you plenty of support.
You may be training for multiple hours so the last thing you need is a stiff neck, sore back and numb bottom. Also, with the possibility of multiple hours of training you must takes regular breaks. It helps you, and it helps your students, to keep focused and refreshed.
How Many Attendees Will You Have?
You will conduct group training sessions so you must be aware of how many you want to have in a session. Online platforms such as Zoom are great because they enable you to see all your attendees at the same time.
Now the more you have is obviously beneficial in regard to your revenue. However, it can detract your online sessions. With each attendee that is added the size of those beautiful faces reduces. Therefore, it is hard to keep an eye on how they are all reacting to your session.
In time you will find your own sweet spot but for now think of anything between 1 and 15. This will help you manage your sessions a lot more easier because your eyes won’t be bouncing of all four corners of your screen.
What Will you Teach In Your Sessions?
Here I am referring to the formats your will be using. Each session must be planned so that your objective is met. Your objective is the desired outcome for your students but how do you achieve that.
It is through the material you deliver and how you deliver it. Don’t bang on for a couple of hours with a power point presentation firmly etched on the screen and you talking over it.
That is a huge turn off and people will become bored and distracted by external forces, Forces such as their phone and checking in on newsfeeds and updating their status.
Make your sessions interactive. Encourage general debates and conversations. Hot seat people and make sure everyone takes their turn. Spilt people up into mini groups, set them tasks and then bring everyone together to share what they have come up with.
Set quizzes, show videos, get people to write things down. They are there to learn and the best way to learn is through practical exercises.
