How To Promote YouTube Channel To Grow Your Audience
There is no point creating great videos for YouTube and not know how to promote YouTube channel. Here is a great checklist to help you grow your YouTube channel.
Hi Trish Davies here and the focus today is growing your audience through your YouTube channel. YouTube is by far my favourite marketing platform both organically and through their self serve paid marketing services.
Today though I want to focus on the organic side to YouTube. This is where you naturally grow your YouTube channel through free marketing strategies. To be successful on YouTube you must know how to promote YouTube channel.
If you don’t then all the hard work and creativity you put into your videos will go to waste. There is a saying “build it and they will come” but in todays digital marketing world that saying holds no credence.
Marketing, advertising and promotion is a must so that you get as many eyeballs as possible on your videos. Those eyeballs will then naturally grow your subscribers on YouTube and the potential for your videos to go viral.
Video marketing is where you must be now and moving forward when marketing your online business. There are multiple video platforms, but YouTube is still the #1 and a baby brother to google.
This makes YouTube the second largest search engine on the internet and very much intertwined with Google. Just place a search term into Google and invariably there will be a video that is listed in the search results. That video will be in all probability a YouTube video, and this is where you want to appear.
So, what is the formula?
How To Promote YouTube Channel In 7 Easy Steps
I am going to share with you 7 incredibly easy steps to help you promote your YouTube channel organically. The following are fundamental things that YouTube look for when rewarding video marketers and listing their videos.
If you implement what I am about to share with you then you will see your subscriber numbers increase.
Create Strong Headlines
I am sure that you will create great video content but you must get people to click on your video. Think of fishing for a moment. You cast the bait into the pond which appeals to the fish you are trying to catch.
That bait is on a hook and this is what the fish bites onto. You have the bite you patiently wait for. Well, you must provide a hook that will grab YouTube viewers attention so they click, which is the bite, onto your headline, which is the hook.
Below is a screenshot of one of my YouTube videos which has a compelling headline.
That title reflects what people are searching for in the search engines. Headlines relate to specific keywords that people enter into the search box on both Google & YouTube. This particular headline has 320 searches per month.
It is a strong and compelling headlines that grabs people’s attention. They need to now more therefore they click on the video. Keyword research is critical to your YouTube videos success and I use a browser extension called Keywords Everywhere.
Also, I use a website called Answer The Public which gives some great keyword ideas. Combined they tell me exactly how many people are looking for a specific keyword term. Then I title my videos accordingly.
Create Eye Catching Video Thumbnails
The headline of the video acts as a hook and the same can be said for the thumbnail that you use. Don’t fall into the trap of having a dull thumbnail that blends in with all the others on YouTube.
What you want is one that stands out and grabs the attention of YouTube users. It is very important that your thumbnail is relevant to the content of your video. YouTube viewers need to understand what your video is all about.
I also use vibrant colours for my Thumbnails and have different ones for my playlists. Below is the thumbnail for the above video and you can see how I utilise my thumbnails on my channel here
I created the above thumbnail using Canva which have YouTube templates you can customize. The great thing about these templates are that they optimized for size and viewing ratio so you know they meet YouTube criteria.
Don’t Make Your Videos Too Long
YouTube viewers want instant gratification from your content. Your content must be good, that is a given, and you don’t want to waffle on too long. If you do and your content doesn’t hit the mark then people will click off. That affects how YouTube rewards you.
Try and keep your videos to the 5 minute mark and pack it with the value your viewers want.
Brand Your YouTube Channel
Personal branding is important when it comes to your YouTube channel. I am a personal branding expert I have branded my YouTube channel as you can see below.
Branding your YouTube channel instantly makes you credible and professional to your potential audience. Your YouTube channel branding adds to your overall brand awareness.
When people land on my channel they know exactly what to expect form the content I publish. It is a filtering system so that people who are interested in your niche click and watch your videos. If they are not interested then they click away which is fine.
Add Call’s To Action (CTA)
You want viewers to interact on your channel so make sure you add call’s to action to your channel and videos. Engagement with your viewers is important so create some simple calls to cation that won’t irritate your viewers.
The best way to do this is to ask them to subscribe to your channel and then receive notification when you publish new content.
As you can see in the above image I have some call to action buttons within my YouTube channel artwork. Also, in the image below, you can see I add the call to action within the video.
Share Your Videos
YouTube is just one publishing platform but there are many more that you can share your videos on. Social media is the first that comes to mind so you can share your videos on all your social media profiles.
You can also share your videos on your website and other people’s websites with their permission off course. The more you share your content the more exposure you will receive.
Collaborate With Other YouTubers
Collaboration is so powerful and you can collaborate with other YouTube channel owners. If your content is relevant to other marketers then it is a great way to gain extra exposure because you are leveraging their established audience. It also works the other way and they can leverage yours as this is a partnership.
