Leverage The Experience You Have Gained Within Your Most Important Team Member Roles To Help Your Business
Use the experience you have gained within the team member roles you have filled to move your business forward.
Throughout your professional career you will have taken on several team member roles. Right from starting out as an office junior or apprentice, and then rising up the chain of command to management level. You will have gained many skills sets that helped you become part of a team either as a leader or follower.
Today I want you to focus on what team roles you have had and what you accomplished within those roles. There is no price you can put on experience so everything you have done so far will only benefit your business. The reason I say this is because your achievements are part of your authenticity and authority.
This was perfectly illustrated within one of my Build Your AU weekly masterminds. A close friend of mine has experienced great success within her career in sales. She has generated millions of Euro in her industry which in many aspects is a male environment.
How Team Member Roles Help Create New Opportunities
She built a team of around 12 salespeople under her and worked with companies all around the world. Her ability to create and nurture relationships has been a great factor to her success. This has been a 25-year journey for her and during the mastermind we bounced ideas around on how it helps her new online business.
The world of ecommerce which she is in and the platform she uses is very competitive. She has taken the skills sets she has from her career to successfully import and re-brand her own products to her home country. She is making regular sales with her first product, so this gives her countless topics to create content to promote her business.
Both of her journeys have now merged, and she has established two things from this merger. Her story is authentic, and she has the authority status from her success. From this she can now attract an audience to her business based upon what she has achieved within her team member roles. She is now a team leader and an online business owner.
Your own success within your team member roles can mirror the success that my friend has achieved. You can take those skill sets and create something that you are very passionate about and help serve others. Again, I will ask you to take some time and think about every role you have filled. What experience have you gained and what have you learnt?
You Must Build Trust, Rapport & Friendship
As you are embarking on this journey of creating your own personal brand and business you must build a circle of influence. It is very hard to build a new business completely on your own so you must build trusting relationships. It is important to know that the people who you have around you will always have your back. However tight the situations you will find yourself in. A lesson that I learnt only too much with a business partner of mine who didn’t have my back.
That is why my Build Your AU mastermind is so powerful because I have built a community. I say I, but in reality, it is the mastermind members who have built it to what it is now. I know that every member has each other’s back and wants them to succeed.
Trust is the key I feel. I trust every member to be honest with me and I reciprocate that back.
Using Your Skill Sets To Build Your Team
Whatever team member roles you have filled there are common threads at every level. You will have developed the ability to be coached from people above you. There will also have been times when you are the coach and shared your knowledge. Having that ability and skill set will only help you when creating your own team around you.
The digital online business space will throw up many challenges, so it is important to reach out to people. Too many times I see online business owners try and do everything by themselves. Think about the businesses you have worked for and the many moving parts that all need to work in sync. Many hands make light work!
To move forward in your business, you need to loosen the reigns and delegate to other people. Man management is critical so think about the people who have demonstrated good leadership qualities. Also think about the ones who have not to avoid making those mistakes.
I again go back to building relationships and developing the trust factor. That factor also must be created with your customers.
How To Use Your Experience When Dealing With Your Customers
Think about the businesses you have worked for and how they have interacted and connected with their customers. How did your role play a part in the customer experience? Did the company offer could customer service or was it simply a transactional purpose for them?
What you must remember is that you are in the people business and you are there to serve them. When you adopt this mindset then the transactions will flow. People buy from people who they trust!
Hopefully you now have some clarity on just how important your previous, or current, team member roles can impact your business. It is important to harness the good points from your roles. Just as important though is to remember the things that you possibly could have done better. There is nothing wrong with being self-critical if you do it in a constructive way. If there is anything you are unsure about with what I spoken about today then please leave a comment or contact me here.
