Trish Davies here and I am going to cover a topic today that people, including you, may be intrigued about! There may also be a sense of scepticism around it as well which I aim to dispel with some cold hard facts. The topic is building a digital lifestyle business to give you the freedom and choices to live the life that you want.
Now that may seem too good to be true and maybe that is where some scepticism comes in. I totally understand but I am going to share with you some of my story and the life I have. How it is made possible by having a digital business.
Anyone born pre millennium has been conditioned to follow a traditional path. That is to become educated within institutions and systems that have been around for 100’s of years. Then to find a regular job and work hard to progress up the mainstream and corporate ladder.
There Shouldn't Be A Textbook For Life
Encouraged to start a family and invest in shelter over their heads and then start a family. Then by the time they are in the mid 60’s expected to retire and grow old gracefully. I know that is a generalisation, but it is kind of a textbook to how to live your life.
There are some great points in there relating to investing in property which I will touch on shortly. Also around creating a family as there is no greater gift in life but there are alternatives to how you work for those 50or so years! The traditional economy is still there if you want it, but you are somewhat restricted.
Life In The Traditional Economy
If you have a traditional bricks and mortar business or work within one you are trading your time for money. That is a simple fact that can’t be ignored. If your business trading hours are 9.00am – 5.00pm this is the time you must make your money.
If you work in such an establishment you are required to be there between those times to carry out your tasks. At the end of the week or month you receive your salary which equates to what you are worth! That is quite a stark realisation if you think about it because this is the value that other people on you.
Now don’t get me wrong there are millions of traditional businesses all around the world that make good money. There are also millions of people who work in the traditional economy who make good salaries. On the other hand, there are many business owners and employees who don’t and struggle.
The point I am trying to make is that there are only so many hours in the day. You work a certain amount of those hours and that is it. There is no flexibility and you are confined to routines of commuting before and after your hours of employment, or trade. Therefore, your working day is longer than the times you are at work. This is more time away from the people you love, and you simply cannot ever get those hours back. Or can you?
There is a way and it is called the digital economy which has been established over the last 25 years. It is only though within the last 10 – 15 years where it has grown unrecognisably to its inception. This is what I want to talk about today.
What Is A Digital Lifestyle Business?
The benefits of digital lifestyle business are having the freedom and choice to do what you want, when you want. This is the ultimate dream but there are processes that you must put in place to make it a reality.
Say for example you have a traditional retail business you have a shop or warehouse that you trade from. You can take that business with all the products you offer and put them online through your own platform. There are many solutions to enable you to do that such as Shopify or combining WordPress with WooCommerce.
Now these may be terms that you are not familiar with, but a simple Google search will open your eyes to the possibilities. These are powerful platforms that have embedded payment processors, so payments are handled automatically.
Now I can hear you saying what about inventory and the need for storage and fulfilment? That is taken out of the equation because you can have fulfilment centres that handle all of that for you. A perfect example of this would be Amazon because you can leverage their platform and taking the need for your own away.
Your inventory is sent into the centres and then shipped out on your behalf. Is this starting to give you some clarity on how a digital business can give you the flexibility and freedom you want?
That is just one example and I will give you some more ideas in the next section. The point is that when you leverage technology you can create just about anything you want.
This means that you can work from anywhere in the world if you have an internet connection. That is fact and not hype!
What Does Your Digital Lifestyle Business Look Like?
You may or not have some ideas of what kind of digital business you can create so let’s look at some ideas. Before I do that though you must look at some certain areas of your life first.
These would cover things like what you have achieved and are good at, basically your natural talents and gifts. Aspects of your life that can be explored to develop business ideas along with potential products and services.

So, let’s look at some potential business models that you could build. I have already mentioned ecommerce where you sell your physical products online though various platforms.
There is a world that contains virtual products and services which is referred to as information publishing. Based upon your knowledge, experience, and passions you can create information products such as eBooks and other training material.
You can create online training packages which consist of videos, eBooks, worksheets, and manuals. The eLearning sphere is a multibillion-dollar market that is only going to get bigger over the next few years.
You can provide consultancy services which I know is trading time for money, but you can do it virtually. This means that you can do it from any location where there is an internet connection. It can also be very lucrative!
Don’t Pay Attention To The Hype & Noise
There are some great ideas to build a digital business lifestyle around and I can give you many more with Build Your AU. What I want to cover now is the dark side of the digital business landscape and alert you to some potential dangers.
By reading this article you have expressed and interest in creating and digital business. This means that you may have already looked online for some information and direction and come across some unfavourable material.
Unfortunately, the world of online business contains a lot of hype, false claims, and scams. Therefore, I brought attention to any scepticism that you may have right at the start of this post. Social media feeds and email inboxes are littered with what are referred as shiny objects.
You may have seen lots of images of people with super cars standing in front of mansions. Also, you may have posts of large wads of money, gold or any other physical commodity that is supposed to represent wealth.
They promise that you will earn $ xxxxx in a short time and will give you access to some push button software. Software that will spit money out 24 hours a day. Really?
Is It Too Good To Be True?
Think about it, if it were that easy to make lots of money then everybody and his dog would be doing it. These people are so called “gurus” who talk a good game. Unfortunately, they can’t back up claims and rely on sensationalism to hook people in.
My advice to you is this and it is an old saying, “if it looks too good to be true, then it almost certainly is”.
Don’t pay attention to this noise and hype. What you must do is to do your due diligence and check people out before you part with any money. These people prey on the vulnerable so please don’t let them take you for a ride.
Right that is my rant over so let me give you some history about myself.
A Snippet Of The Freedom & Choice I Enjoy
The corporate world and personal tragedy have led me to the position I am in today. Over 20 years ago my husband was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident which meant that I became a single mother with a young daughter.
Financially it was very scary as obviously income had been lost but because I am a very resilient person. Therefore, it made me make some decisions to establish a financial firewall around my family.
It meant investing in myself to gain the education to better myself but that took me to the corporate world. It became apparent very quickly that this wasn’t the life I wanted. Being dictated to by managers and being stuck in an office 9-5 was not for me.
So, I did something about it and the path took me to investing in real estate. It was 2005 and I saw the opportunity to invest in the real estate market in the USA. After gaining the coaching and training I needed to understand the industry I started to invest in property.
These properties then became assets which also yielded income for me monthly. This gave me cash flow after the essential expenses had be deducted.
Since then I have always looked for genuine opportunities to create income streams. I am very economically minded, and money is a driving factor. I looked at the opportunities for creating additional income streams through different business models.
