A new year of hope that we will see the back of Covid-19 once the vaccination process gets into full swing. Now that is something that is totally out of your control but what you can control is your marketing strategies.

It is far to say that business has been challenging this year due to the pandemic. Economic and social fear, unrest and dealing with the unknown has had a massive impact. As a business owner you would have had to adapt, diversify, and possibly look at new opportunities.

That has been the only way for the majority of business owners to ensure some form of survival. The flip side is that even during a major catastrophe certain sectors in business thrive and hopefully that includes you.

The pandemic has certainly changed the public’s buying habits. More people are turning to the internet for information before they make a buying decision. Therefore, you must make people aware of your business and what it can provide in the way of solutions.

That is why for this post on digital marketing trends 2021 I want to focus on making a connection with your audience. I am going to share with you 5 marketing trends that I recommend you using in 2021 and beyond.

Content Marketing 

Content marketing should be high on your list of marketing strategies to leverage next year. You should leverage the old and trusted ways of content marketing such as blogs, social posts, videos as these are great in creating that awareness in people.

What you must understand is that people search online because they have problems they want solved. High quality content using the formats just mentioned offer true value when you position yourself as a problem solver.

What you should also be doing is creating interactive content pieces such as polls, surveys, quizzes, competitions. This creates engagement which then helps you start to create a relationship with your audience.

I realise video marketing is a form of content marketing, but I wanted to elaborate more on this strategy. Video marketing is my favourite marketing strategy and a marketing trend that will have huge impact in 2021.

Video marketing is very engaging and has high impact on the person watching. There is a saying that pictures paint a thousand words because it is easier to show something in a picture than describe it with words. Therefore, video can conservatively 10x that principle.

Video instantly engages with your audience and it grabs their attention far quicker. Also, video is quick in regard to content delivery and there are many platforms that you can leverage. YouTube & Vimeo to name just two.

The majority of people would prefer to watch a short video than read an article. The modern-day person has an array of devices to watch a video on. Most are portable and on their person all of the time therefore it is instant gratification when they log onto YouTube for example.

You must get comfortable creating video content. That can be you in front of the camera, creating slide tutorials, on screen tutorials and Facebook lives. You can then leverage all the video platforms and deliver your content to your audience. After all that is where they are spending most of their time!

There have been many company’s who have developed voice recognition technology. Siri & Alexa come to mind instantly and there are many more. As technology advances your marketing creativity must also because people are using voice search on mobile.

You must adopt a conversational approach to the tone and keywords that you use. People who use such technology will overtime build a voice search profile on the devices they use.

As a business owner you must create a custom SEO strategy for voice search preferences and behaviours. Therefore, your website, any apps you use for your business and all your other platforms are optimized for voice search.

Your audience will start to know, like and trust you through the value you deliver to them. As that relationship grows you will start to influence them on their decision making.

Social media is only going in one direction when it comes to people creating profiles. That obviously is up so what has always been a powerful marketing tool is only to gain more power in 2021.

Social media facilitates lead generation, customer acquisition and retention along with building brand transparency. Use social media in a social way for your business to create awareness and engagement. Don’t go for the hard sell on social media as it will turn people off you and they will go elsewhere.

I have established that most people search online when they are looking for solutions. Therefore, you must have a strong online presence which usually starts with your website.

The general public will hear about you through many different ways. Their natural reaction is to then search for you online so they can check you out more. When they do and you don’t show up it doesn’t instil any confidence in that person.

It is nearly 2021 and you must get your online presence act together or you will lose business to your competitor. To do this your website must be optimized for purpose. Modern day website platforms have SEO functionality built into them so your content must be relevant to what you offer.

Use strong keywords in your content, publish dynamic video content, use strong images. Make sure your website delivers a strong first impression when people land on it. Make sure those people know they are in the right place to find the help they need.

Also make sure you look into Google My Business. I have done this recently and it is a process where you contact Google to have your business details appear on the right-hand side on the page. There is a process that you must go through, it is relatively straight forward and in just a few weeks your business will appear on the search pages.
