Learn How To Build An Audience For Your Blog To Create Engagement

A blog is a very important part to your authority website so learn how to build an audience for your blog to create engagement with your readership.

Trish Davies here again from Build Your AU. One of the core pillars to my training program is to create an audience for your online business. There are many methods and strategies you can use to achieve this, one of them is by creating a readership. This means attracting people to you authority website and the blog facility that you have on it.

In my previous post I reflected on why small businesses need a website and the benefits that it brings. Today I want to take this one step further by focusing on the blog facility that you should have set up.

You will notice at the top of this website there is a blog tab in the main navigation menu. The article that you are currently reading sits within the blog facility behind that tab. This is a fluid entity for you authority website, and it is what you will use to attract and audience.

How The Blog Function Works

how to build an audience for your blog

What you must understand is that individuals go onto the search engines and enter search terms. You will have it at some point because you may have been looking for a solution, or general information. Those search terms are referred to as keywords which are a string of words that form a phrase.

When individuals enter those keywords the search engines deliver thousands of results. These are predominantly articles and blog posts like the one you are reading now. When individuals click on those links they are directed to the article. Therefore, they land on the website that the article and blog posted is hosted on.

This is what makes blogging so powerful because it is a platform that you control 100%. It is also a platform where you can inform your visitors on who you are, what your business is, and how you can help them.

Once they are on your website, they can look at other articles you have on your blog. Therefore, you are positioning yourself as a person who is an expert and delivering value. The more value you deliver the more they will come back therefore you are building a following.

Every business must have a following to survive and your blog is designed to create awareness and engagement. There are then strategies that are used to convert visitors into leads, prospects, and customers. That is for another day because I want to focus on attracting people to start building that following.

I am going to share with you some simple but powerful tips on how to build an audience for your blog. I recommend that you use all the tips I give you to get the maximum exposure to gain the applause from your readership.

How To Build An Audience For Your Blog Start With Uniqueness

being unique

Uniqueness covers a number of points when it comes to your blog. The first is the uniqueness of your content which doesn’t need much explaining. Think of unique content to write about and never copy other peoples ideas. Search engines love it from a practical point and so will your readership.

The main point about uniqueness is you as a person. Unless you are a twin there is only one of you in this world. Even if you are a twin you will still have your own uniqueness about you. This is what must come across within the content you create and publish on your blog.

You will have your own tone, language, ideas, eccentricities that sets you apart from anyone else. Your readers visit your website and blog for information, but they also want to know about the person behind it.

Think about when you meet people for the first time over coffee, a meal, or a social gathering. You engage in conversation about each other to start to build a relationship. It doesn’t take to long before you know if you like them and want to develop the relationship or not.

It is the same principle with your website and blog. Basically, you are inviting individuals into your space through the content you create. In many respects you and the visitor have made the first move. You have researched what people are looking for, they have seen your link online and clicked on it. The connection had been made and their first impression of you is what matters.

It won’t take them too long to make up their minds about you when they land on your website. Use your story within the content that you create so they can relate to what you are saying.

Make Sure You Respond To People

Part of building an audience for your blog is interaction and engagement. You will receive comments to the articles and other content you publish. Therefore, you must respond to people who have taken the time to leave you feedback.

It could be that they loved your content and just wanted to express their appreciation. Alternatively, they may not have agreed with you and felt the need to voice their opinion. Or it could be that they want to know more about what you have refereed to.

Whatever the reason is you must respond. By doing this you start a conversation with that person. Not only will they appreciate it, other people who visit your website will as well.

When people see that you take the time to respond they will gain confidence in you. They will see that you don’t hide in the shadows. That you are totally transparent, upfront, honest and care about the people who visit your website.

You Must Be Consistent

One of the most important things to do is post content regularly. You must get into the habit of posting 3 – 4 times a week as it helps with building and retaining your blog audience. If you only post once a week then people won’t come back because it is not worth their time.

You must develop a mindset of delivering value on a consistent basis. Set up a schedule on when you will be posting and stick to it. When you do this your readership will expect to hear from you. They will bookmark your website and even have notifications set up to receive your latest updates.

Integrate Your Blog With Social Media

blogging and social media

As an online busines owner you must build a large online presence through many different platforms. Social media is a must for you online business and here is how you can use it.

You will set up profiles and busines pages that will help attract people to your business. Social media channels are great to build engagement, but they come with their problems.

These are platforms that you don’t control unlike your website and blog. If they don’t like what you publish on their platforms, then they will shut you down. Consider using them as a bridge to your blog and website.

Whenever you post and article or video on your website make sure there is a snippet published to your social profiles. There are software applications that can do this for you, or you can do it yourself.

One of my Build Your AU mastermind members takes the first couple of paragraphs and publishes it on his social profiles. He adds an image and a simple call to action. That call to action is “to learn more click the link”. The link is the URL for the blog post so when people click it, they are taken to the full article.

By adopting this method, you are leveraging one audience with the intention of establishing that audience on your platform.

Another way to build an audience for you blog is to put a link to your website in your YouTube video descriptions. I love video and regularly create video content which I upload to YouTube.

Within the description section for the video I always put links to my website and any relevant landing pages. Many people read the descriptions. Therefore, I am giving them the opportunity to check out my website at the same time to get more value. Again, it is the same principle I just mentioned about leveraging one audience to create another.
