Use These How To Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone Tips To Show Your Authenticity

You live your life in a safe bubble, your comfort zone but to experience things in life you must break free so use these how to get out of your comfort zone tips to show your authenticity.

Hi Trish Davies, here, founder of Build Your AU, personal branding coach and trainer. Last week I started a brand new 9-week training program to help individuals start an online business. I am looking forward to tonight as it is the second week and some more members will step out and introduce themselves.

For the first 3 weeks I am focusing on authenticity as it is the first pillar of the training program. This involves you showing the real you to the world, what makes you the person you are, what makes you tick!

To really encapsulate who you are may mean that you must go to the final frontier, your comfort zone. When you get there, you must then take a significant step and break through the confines of your safety zone. Walk over that line and say “this is me” to the world beyond.

Unfortunately for some people they find it hard to knock the walls down of their safe and secure bubble. Not being able to break down that barrier means that you never reach your full potential.

When it comes to starting your own business there are many elements that will take you to those outer limits. To progress you must face your fears, the things that are holding you back. There is no other option.

Today I am going to look at one key element, your messaging!

How To Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone Tips

Your messaging is what will show your authenticity. What you say and how you present yourself are the things that people will instantly pick up upon. They will notice your perfections, imperfections, frailties, strong points, and transparency. Or they will pick up on whether you are trying to be someone who you are not!

Now there are two main mediums that you will use when delivering your message. You will either use video or the written word. Both of these mediums will test your strength of character, but they have one thing in common.

That is when it comes down to publishing your content. That is where your comfort zone lies, do you stay quiet and keep to the safe side, or do you expose yourself. Your challenge will be to press that record button if you are doing video or clicking the publish button for text!

All sorts of things will be running through your mind. Will people understand you? What if they don’t like you? Will you get bad feedback? These are just three examples but there will be many more which may hold you back.

Your finger will hover, be tantalisingly close to the point of no return. How do you overcome the fear and step out of your comfort zone?

The Written Word

writing an article

This is arguably the easiest barrier to breakdown to show your authenticity to your audience. I say this not in a way to downplay the significance of exposing yourself to the outside world. It is still a barrier to overcome by clicking that “publish” or “post” button.

What I mean is that when you publish articles, blog posts or social media updates you still hide behind the screen. Now that is in no way meant to sound deceptive or shady, but the fact is this. You are transferring words from a word document on your computer, or the editor in your website to the public forum.

It is still your message. A message that revolves around your beliefs, values and what you stand for. It’s purpose is to give value to your audience and make an impact on their lives.

From a physical standpoint it is easier to click “publish” than “record” because you are not front of house. You may have your photo on your website or social media profiles, but words are a static element to a webpage.

What I will say though is that for you to be taken seriously in business you must have a website. That website is a representation of who you are and what you stand for. The content that you must publish will be aligned with that.

Time To Take Action

Only action will break through your comfort zone. On your computer you will have some kind of word processing program. Just start off by writing for yourself, put your thoughts onto the screen and get comfortable writing.

You will soon find your style, your language and more importantly your message. Keep practicing because you will get better, become more confident. Then show some of your work to your family and friends, ask for an honest opinion as to whether you come across as authentic.

Then there will come a point that you must take those words from your computer and publish to the world. Social media profiles are easy to set up for your business. Post some content onto your profiles and look at the feedback you receive. This will a great indication as to whether your message it is hitting home.

One thing to remember though is that your message won’t appeal to everyone. Only the people who are aligned with your thoughts. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if some people don’t like what you say. I know that is hard to accept initially but you must not take too much to heart. In time you will become much thicker skinned.

As for your website there are free platforms that you can set up a simple blog online. This is your platform, your home on the internet. Think about creating a safe and secure place for you and your readership. Once that readership grows you will find it easier to publish your content as you will know your message is on point.

Pressing The Record Button

record a video

This is something that I have noticed holds back more people. The fear of putting your face on camera, maybe it because we are conditioned to the old saying. That is “the camera never lies!”

I totally accept that putting yourself on camera is something that may frighten you. It may break you out in a cold sweat, get the heart racing and create anxiety. It is a feeling that everyone has but it is also something that you can and will overcome.

In all probability you will have a phone with a camera on it and this is all you need. If you look at my YouTube channel you wills see that I use my mobile phone a lot. The modern-day phones have fantastic quality camera on them.

So, like with writing you must start to practice, privately if it makes you feel more comfortable. I tell all of my members and the people I coach to think of the camera as your observer.

Have fun with it, explore the content you want to eventually publish on your YouTube channel, website, and social media. Watch your videos back, they may make you cringe to start with but that is all part of the learning curve.

When you feel comfortable show them to your family and friends to get some feedback. Like with writing though there will be a time where you must bite the bullet. Take those private videos and publish them live on your YouTube channel.

Go Live On Facebook

A tip would be to create your own Facebook group. One that you can practice doing Facebook live videos on. This is a safe environment for you to get comfortable with the uncomfortable.

This is something I have asked the new members of my 9-week training program. The program is at the starting stage where I focus on authenticity. I set them the homework of doing a Facebook live within the group.

I accept that that could be daunting but there is one thing that I pride myself on. That is, I always create safe and secure environments for my members to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. The group has only just started but already is very tight.

Therefore, there are no agendas, no one judges anyone. Everyone is there to help and support in a safe environment. It has been great to see people stepping up and going live, some of them for the first time.

Whether it is YouTube or Facebook for you to break through your comfort zone you must press that record button. Nothing will change unless you do and the same can be said for writing your content. I have shared with you some how to get out of your comfort zone tips. Please use them to push you through your comfort zone and share your message. Your audience awaits and this is your way to show your true authentic self. To learn more about Build Your AU please click here.
