Hi Trish Davies here, founder of Build Your AU, the launch pad for your first or next course. Now you may have a course already created or at the inception stage, but you feel your face just doesn’t fit.

In your mind you may be thinking that no one knows who you are, why should they buy your course? You maty feel you have a lack of credibility and don’t fit in along side other so called leaders in your industry.

What you are suffering from is called imposter syndrome and it is very common. Therefore, don’t be too hard on yourself as at some point in all our lives we all have the same experience.

The trouble is that this imposter syndrome is in all probability the single most factor holding you back. You may have taken online courses or seen how normal people, I say that in the nicest way, are successfully selling courses themselves.

Believe me if they can do it then so can you and the purpose of today’s post is to help you get over it. I am going to share with you one simple tip, well it’s a principle, on how to overcome imposter syndrome.

Before I do I want to share something that will give some context on how you can overcome this obstacle.

Who Have Been Role Models In Your Life?

mentorship

Whatever stage of life you are at you will have had role models, people you looked up. People who helped you gain skills sets, knowledge and who have helped mould you into the person you are.

Take some time to think of who those people are. They could be your parents, your teachers, work colleagues or experts in their field. The commonality is that all of those people would have shared their knowledge and expertise with you.

You then take what they share with you and implement it in the appropriate way. The result is that you grow as a person, you evolve, you gain new skill sets and gain confidence.

All of these people are teachers of life. Apart from your parents they would have been people who you had no, or very little previous, knowledge about. You come into contact with them, and they are a figure head because of the knowledge they have amassed.

For Example, Your Sports Coach

Think about this for a moment. You will have had a sports teacher at all your levels of education. Now there are many different sports but for example lets look at soccer, or football if you are from the United Kingdom and Europe.

That soccer/football coach would have been a role model for you and someone you would want to learn from. The fact is that in all probability that coach would not have been a professional footballer in a previous life.

What would have happened is they would themselves gone into some form of teacher training program. They would have selected sports as their preferred area to teach and would have studied multiple sports.

Then they would have a qualification behind their name to give them authority and credibility. That person would not have been a household name. They are a normal person who has gained the required knowledge and then passed it onto you.

So, what is the difference between you and them when it comes to coaching? Nothing is the answer and here is the main principle or tip for you to overcome your imposter syndrome.

How To Overcome Imposter Syndrome

how to overcome imposter syndrome

I have mentioned that you have had many role models and teachers in your life. They are normal people just like you and the only difference is that they are one step ahead of you.

They have credibility because of their natural skills and talents. Also they have amassed knowledge through being taught, implemented it and then taken that step to teach to others.

There is nothing more special about them compared to you. You have learnt from them, maybe bought courses in the past form people like you. Why should you think that no one would buy from you and benefit from the talents and gifts you have.

You don’t need to be some kind of celebrity or household name. You just need to be you and share with people how you can help them overcome their problems. Problems that you have overcome yourself, that is the only thing you need to be seen as credible and an authority.

Your talents and gifts must be shared with the world so that they impact people’s lives. The main thing that maybe holding you back is that you just don’t realise just how special you are.
