Tips On How To Sell Online Courses
Want to know how to sell online courses? Selling online courses requires having a marketing system and strategy in place. Here’s how to sell online courses!
Hi Trish Davies, here to talk about how to sell online courses and put money in your bank account. To sell online courses you must have a system in place that works in conjunction with your marketing and advertising.
Now the marketing system starts with what I spoke about in my previous post. In that post I focused on lead magnet ideas for coaches which is the first step to sell online courses.
Your future students first start off as a lead, a name and an email address. Handing over that information to you is their first commitment but you must provide value to them for them to make that decision.
Providing value comes in many different shapes and forms and that is what I want to focus on first. Your objective is to build an audience, a following, a tribe of loyal fans who then trust you enough to hand over those personal details.
From then I will share some insights on the business model you must have in place to sell your online courses. In essence you must always be looking to ascend your leads and customers to the next stage of your business model. Therefore, I will explain the ascension business model so you can gain clarity on how to sell multiple online courses.
Another thing to consider when selling you online courses is your pricing structure. Finally, I will share with you a great option that I use to process payments and deliver my content to my members.
How To Sell Online Courses – Build An Audience
I created Build Your AU specifically to help people create online training courses. To extract from them all their natural talents, gifts, experience and expertise. Then package it all up within an online training program at the same time as creating a strong personal brand.
Part of the Build Your AU program focuses on building an audience of potential leads and customers. To do that I recommend that you adopt what is called an organic approach which means you are not investing money, but you are investing your time.
Now that time investment means that you will be creating content in several different formats. That content is designed to attract your ideal customers by making them aware of you and how you can help them with the problems they are experiencing.
Your audience will be interested in your life story, what you have achieved and the obstacles you have overcome. Within your content you ill be highlighting specific pain points you have suffered from, so they resonate with your message.
That is where your connection with them will be made and they will want to learn more about you. Therefore, you continually feed that craving by regularly creating engaging content so lets look at the content you can create.
Content Types To Create An Audience
My personal favourite medium is creating videos that I regularly publish on my YouTube channel. When you get the opportunity head over to my channel as that will give you lots of ideas on what type of videos you need to create.
I also write blog posts on a regular basis which appeals to the sector of my audience who prefer the written word. Again, I focus on specific topics that people in my niche are searching for and then provide value around that topic.
Social media is another great platform to build an audience and here you can share written and video posts. One of my favourite content creation strategies is Facebook Live as it is as raw as it can get. That shows my true authenticity, and this is what you must strive to achieve.
Now the objective as I have said here is to create awareness and engagement. Also, the objective is to get that viewer or reader to make that first commitment. That commitment is to give you their contact details in return for your free gift which is your lead magnet.
The Ascension Business Model
As I have mentioned you must always look to ascend your leads and customers to the next level. By asking them to subscribe for you lead magnet they have in effect ascended to the first level or your products and services.
Your lead magnet is a product that you have created albeit a free resource. At this stage you next objective is to ascend them to your first paid product which will be your initial online course.
That initial online course will be a more comprehensive training resource. It is a natural progression from your initial free resource, your lead magnet.
The upsell process, which is what has happened, is then a rinse and repeat process. You will in time have a range of courses, mastermind memberships and consultation services.
Each product or service you have in your suite will ascend in price which I will cover shortly. In essence this process is how to sell online courses and it all starts form a free offer. Another thing to consider is that when you have this business model in place you have repeat buyers in your business model.
It is always easier to sell something to an existing customer than continually bringing people from scratch into your business. Obviously the more leads you attract the more repeat customers you potentially create. Therefore, as regard to your marketing it should always be directed to that free offer and the rest takes care of itself.
How Much Should You Charge For Your Online Courses?
Pricing your online courses is something that you must take time to consider. Bearing in mind that your first course is an upsell from your free lead magnet you are probably looking at the $100 – $200 price range.
I know that this is a considered decision for many people but at the same time for others is considered an impulse buy. At the end of the day a percentage your initial leads will want to learn more from you, therefore they will buy you first course.
From there a percentage of your customers, that is important to remember, will buy your next course. Therefore, the price range may be between $500 – $1000. The process is then repeated by you offering a course around $2500 and so on.
Your Objective Is To Create A Product Funnel
One thing to be clear on is that this process is like a filtering system. In the online marketing world this process is called a product funnel and the nature of a funnel is that it gets narrower towards the bottom.
Therefore, at the bottom of your product funnel will be your flagship product or service. This can command a price tag of tens of thousands of dollars. People will pay this amount for the value and benefits they receive. I can testify to that as I have invested in such high end masterminds and mentorship programs.
Another thing to consider when it comes to pricing is the pricing model you implement. Initially you will be charging a one off fee but as you offer higher prices you may want to implement other pricing strategies.
Strategies such as multiple payment, instalment, plans especially for your consulting services. You may want to run a training program on a monthly basis so in this case you will set up a monthly recurring payment plan. A membership subscription in other words.
Mr Recommended Course Delivery Platform
The final thing to consider is a platform that collects payments and delivers your online courses. I have my product funnels set up within a platform called Kajabi which collects payments, creates members accounts and delivers my content.
Now I don’t want to go into Kajabi too much in this post as I have created a previous post on Kajabi. To learn more about how your entire online coaching business can be operated through Kajabi please click here.
