You are unique and have so much to offer. Tell your audience how great you are and what you stand for through your personal brand story.

Hi Trish Davies here and today I am going to focus on personal branding and creating a personal brand story. In my previous post I focused on creating a storytelling marketing strategy which goes hand In hand with todays post. You can check out that post here.

In that post I mentioned your origin story which is your personal brand story. You are like a snowflake because you are unique. If you were to ask your family and friends what makes you unique there would be many commonalities in their response.

That uniqueness is what you must position in front of your audience. This makes you special and compliments your natural skills that sets your apart from your competition.

Creating your personal brand story along with your unique value proposition can be challenging. Your objective is to differentiate yourself in the most positive way, that’s the challenge!

Your personal brand story will become one of your most important marketing tools. It will give clarity to your potential audience on what you stand for and what you do. So how do you develop your personal brand story?

6 Tips How To Develop Your Personal Brand Story

Tell Your Story 

I referenced this in my previous post on the importance of conveying your origin story. Your story must include how you have overcome challenges in life, how you have faced adversity.

Highlight you credentials, your expertise and  your experiences. Make sure the include the good, the bad and the ugly as this will show your human and authentic side.

Don’t be afraid to share your story through your social media profiles. Add images of you at work or create posts about how you have overcome any personal doubts that you’ve had.

One thing to remember is to keep a uniformity as to your message across all your social profiles. You don’t want any discrepancies or misinformation to break the chain.

At the end of the day it is your personal brand story. You have carte blanche to say whatever you want.

Make An Emotional Connection 

While creating your personal brand story always be aware that you want to make an emotional connection. Your audience must feel you, understand you and resonate with what you are saying. You want to strike emotional chords within your audience within everything that you say.

Personal Brand Statement 

You must create a personal brand statement so that your audience know who & what you are. Recently I created an in-depth post on how to do this exercise. You can read that post here but for now try and fill in the bracket below.

Keep Your Door Open 

Your personal brand and personal brand story must act as an open door to your audience. Once your audience becomes aware of who you are and what you do you must get them engage with you.

Once they get you they will feel compelled to listen and find out more about you. They will make contact and it is up to you then to respond and engage to further the conversation.

Your Personal Brand Story Must Have A Personal Tone 

Your personal brand story must have a personal and conversational tone but appear business like. What you must remember is that you are not applying for a job, you are an entrepreneur so you have one already.

Don’t create a listicle of industry terminology as this is not a curriculum vitae that you are creating. This is journal of your journey so far which highlight the stumbles you have mad along with the transformations you have experienced.

You Must Go Deep 

Your personal brand story mustn’t just scratch the surface of who you are, you must go deep. Deep into your inner core and extract the beliefs and values that you hold dear.

When you go deep you have a much better chance to make that emotional connection I mentioned earlier.
